Getting Ready

Let’s get your home ready for the camera!

Make sure all occupants clear the area for the photoshoot. If you decide to stay, hideout in an area that is not being shot, such as a garage or closet. These places are also good for hiding things that shouldn’t in the photos.

All pets need to be held away from the shooting area of the property. This includes out of the windows’ line of sight as well as the front and back yard.

An asterisk ( * ) means to complete the task the day prior to the shoot. Doing it the day of can lead to complications.

Exterior

  • Move vehicles off of the driveway and from the street directly in front of the property

  • Hide trash cans in the garage or on the side of the property

  • Remove any water hoses*

  • Mow and trim the yard*

  • Turn off any sprinklers*

  • Remove any cover from the pool and clean out any leaves or debris that may be in it

  • Remove any pool equipment

  • Prepare and tidy any outdoor feature such as firepits, water features, built in grills, or spas

  • Clean any patio furniture*

  • Check light bulbs and replace any that aren’t functional

  • Close Garage Doors

  • Remove any For Sale signs or business signs

Interior

  • Remove shoes, umbrellas, and similar items from entryways

  • Remove all small throw rugs from any hallway, bathroom, or kitchen

  • Clear off any magnets and pictures that are on the refridgerator

  • Remove any unnecessary items that are on the kitchen counter or in the sink

  • Wipe off the kitchen counters

  • Degrease and clean the stovetop

  • Remove DVR systems, game consoles, and remote controllers from view

  • Hide any electrical cables if possible

  • Hide any portable fans or heaters

  • Open all window blinds and curtains

  • Check all light bulbs and replace any that aren’t functional

  • Remove any unnecessary items that are on the bathroom counter or in the sink

  • Remove all items in the bathtub or shower

  • Remove any excessive amount of toys

  • Tidy any couches and beds

  • Remove any potentially offensive items, personal items, political signs, keys, and family photos from any walls, tables or counters

  • Remove any holiday decorations*

  • Turn on all lights before the photoshoot

  • Turn off all ceiling fans

Pets 

  • Remove any pet excrement from the yard

  • Remove any pet toys on the interior and exterior of the property

  • Remove any beds, litter boxes, cages or scratching posts

  • Remove any feeding bowls
